Chapel in 15

He shows up outside the Chapel doors and mills around for a moment or two, trying to figure out if it's worth going inside. With a sigh, he heads in to wait for Vanessa.

Vanessa's heart was racing. She wasn't sure how this was going to go, but something had to be done. A lot depended on it. "You don't believe, do you? You have no idea what's out there."

He gives her a look of confusion. "What do you mean 'what's out there'?" Then it clicks. "You're talking about the occult stuff that Haley doesn't think I know she's into, right?"

Vanessa raised her hand and the candles that were all around the room lit up. "She's into it because it's her destiny."

He raises an eyebrow. "Nice trick. And as for that destiny thing," he shrugs, "it's easy for people to write things off as destiny when it's out of their control."

Vanessa shrugged, "Maybe and that wasn't a trick. I'm a witch. And if you don't start believing that there is more on this earth than what people tell us, it could get Haley killed. I'm not being dramatic. The whole time Sam, Dean, and I were talking to her, she was worried about one thing. You. She's so afraid that something's going to happen to you because of this and if you don't have a way to defend yourself, she's going to defend you which leaves her guard down."

He stands, shaking his head. "This is nuts. That was a trick. And there's nothing 'out there'. Haley's just worried because the last time..." The last time, their grandmother had sent her away. "Look, nothing's going to happen to her except maybe another breakdown if you guys don't leave her alone." He shoves his fisted hands into his pockets and turns for the door.

"You can't get out." Vanessa said, "I put a seal on it. Only I can take it off."

"Stop messing around, Vanessa," he says, turning on his heel to glare at her. He laughs and it's almost hysterical. "None of this is funny. It's just stupid and a little crazy."

"No, what's stupid and crazy is you putting Haley's life in danger. Do you know what she's up against??" Vanessa said finally hopping off the alter, "She's up against EVIL. We're not talking about someone cheating or someone stealing something. We're talking about what you've always told yourself wasn't true. Why you're afraid of the dark. That's what she's up against and she should have her focus on protecting herself, but because of your stubbornness, she's going to protect you. Because she loves you and you're the only family she's got."

"Shut up!" A pew jostles beside him and he takes a step back, taking a deep breath and trying to ignore the pain in his temple. "This whole thing is giving me a headache. You're nuts. I don't know what I was thinking coming here and I really don't want Haley hanging out with you or your psycho friends."

"That pain you're feeling." Vanessa said calmly, "Is because you're repressing your power. None of this is easy to deal with, but Nate, you have to start recognizing this stuff."

"No, the pain I'm feeling is a headache, brought on by exposure to crazy." He grits his teeth and throws his hands into the air. "I don't even know why I'm trying to reason with you. I'm out of here."

"You'll learn sooner or later ma cherie." Vanessa said with a sigh. "I only hope by then it's not too late."

He bites down on his bottom lip and hears the benches scrape again. "Don't call me that."

"It reminds you of the dream, right?" Vanessa said carefully, "Civil War era, Louisiana? You were a Confederate soldier, right?"

"I don't know what you're talking about." The lance of pain at his temple makes him wince. "Damn..." He looks at her over his shoulder. "Why are you doing this? And please, don't give me some crazy answer about good and evil."

Vanessa took a deep breath. "There are more things on heaven and earth Horatio than are dreampt of in your philosophy. Nate, I care about you more than I should. I want you to be prepared for whatever's out there. It's hard to understand and there are days when I wish that I didn't know, but I do."

"It's not hard to understand. It's either a hoax, a fairy tale, or has some sort of explanation," he says gruffly, rubbing at his temple. "You just want to throw some sort of superpowered aspect to it."

"Nate, do you really think I'd so something like that to you?" She waved her hand and the door opened, "Fine. Go. I don't really care anymore."

"You barely even know me," he mutters, heading for the door. "And things like this..." He shoots her a look that's as hurt as it is angry. "And things like this just aren't talked about where people can hear them." He walks through the doors and pulls out his phone. He's not going to class. He's not going to practice. He's just going to go home and sleep.
