Pool Party

No diving in the shallow end.

3 2 1 GO!

Haley sat in a pool chair and sighed. "The only way this could get any better is if there was no school tomorrow. Do you think anyone would notice if I didn't show up?"

"I bet gossip girl would notice, or find out from someone. Then there would be suspicions, and that doesn't sound good for our plan to lay low." Ben said and sat on the chair beside her.

"They won't know WHY I'm not there. All I have to do is put a call into the school and say I'm sick or I had an emotional breakdown." She shrugged. "Whatever will get me out of going to school."

"You guys are lame!" Serena shouted from the pool. "Come in, the water's great, and it's hard playing Marco Polo with only one other person."

Haley took a sip of her drink and laughed. "I'm trying to get a tan here."

"Inside? Good luck with that." She laughed and swam away as Diana moved towards her.

Chuck observed everyone from where he was sitting on the lifeguard stand. "Did anyone hear the story about the ghost that haunted the pool?"

"This pool?" Diana asked opening her eyes and turning around.

"He's only trying to scare us."

"Yeah, I've been here plenty of times. I've never seen a ghost." Ben replied.

Haley rolled her eyes and stood up. "Besides, that's an urban legend. I heard about it when I went to summer camp in the sixth grade."

Chuck raised his eyebrows. "I never said anyone died here. I said that the pool was haunted. There are actual accounts of it."

"Oh, really?" Serena said as she floated around. "I'll believe it when I see it."

"That's the oldest urban legend in the book." Haley said as she sat on the ledge and put her feet in the water. "Seriously, I think I used that one on Nate. It did freak him out though. He wouldn't go near a pool for about a week."

"Oh my god I remember you telling me that!" She laughed.

"He was really that scared?" Ben asked and sat beside Haley on the pools edge.

Haley nodded. "Yeah. We were like eight at the time and spending the summer with Grandma in the Hamptons and she has a pool in her backyard where he would go to practice lacrosse. Nate totally wouldn't go near the pool even when his ball went into the water. It stayed there the rest of the summer."

"Wow. I as afraid of lakes, I use to think there were monsters. But you can see everything in a pool."

Chuck shrugged. "Not necessarily."

"So, what's the catch then?' Serena asked. "Do I have to spin around three times and go underwater?" She laughed. "All do it if it makes your 'ghost' come out."

Chuck rolled his eyes. "Don't be stupid. Everyone knows that stuff like that only pisses ghosts off."

"Hey pool ghost! Come out, come out, where ever you are!" She called and dived into the deep end.

"I have a bad feeling about this." Diana said and climbed out.

Haley nodded in agreement. "Serena, I really don't think you should do that." She took her feet out of the water and stood up.
